People ask me all the time — why real estate? Thirty years in, the answer is different than it was at the beginning. But the reason I stayed? That hasn't changed once.
A home is more than walls and a roof. It's the place where you finally exhale. Where your kids learn to walk. Where you sit on the porch after a long day and think, okay — I'm good. It's safety. It's pride. It's proof that you built something real.
I didn't grow up with a lot of money. Nobody in my family was handing me a playbook for how to buy a house or build a career. I figured it out the way a lot of people do — by watching, asking questions, and learning from every mistake along the way.
Starting on the Other Side of the Table
Before I ever helped someone buy or sell a home, I worked in mortgage lending, title insurance, and escrow. Most people don't even know those are separate jobs — they just know the stack of papers they sign at closing. I was behind those papers. I saw what went wrong when a loan fell apart three days before close. I saw families lose a home they loved because nobody caught a title issue early enough.
That experience changed everything about how I approach real estate. I don't just show houses. I understand the entire process — the financing, the title search, the escrow timeline, the things that can quietly derail a deal if nobody's paying attention.
When I made the move to sales, I brought all of that with me. Not because I planned it that way, but because I'd lived it. I'd sat in every chair at the closing table.
What I Didn't Have — and What I Did
I didn't start with a big marketing budget. I didn't have a team or a fancy office or a name that people in town already knew. What I had was knowledge — real, hard-earned knowledge about how real estate actually works behind the scenes. And I had honesty. I couldn't afford to be anything other than straightforward, because my reputation was the only thing I was building with.
That's still true. Thirty years later, I still pick up the phone on the first ring. I still walk clients through every line of their contract. I still tell people the truth, even when it's not what they want to hear — because a good agent protects you from a bad decision just as much as they help you make a great one.
I've never been the flashiest agent in the room. I've been the one people come back to. The one they send their parents to. Their neighbors. Their coworkers. That kind of trust isn't something you can buy. You earn it one family at a time.
Home Means Something Different When You've Worked for Every Inch of It
When I talk to buyers — especially first-time buyers, or people who are downsizing after decades in the same house — I understand the weight of it. This isn't a transaction to them. It's their life.
I remember what it felt like to not know how any of this worked. To wonder if I was asking the right questions. To sit across from someone with more experience and hope they were actually looking out for me.
That memory is why I do what I do. I want every person I work with to feel confident. Not confused. Not pressured. Confident. I live in Trilogy at the Vineyards. I didn't just pick Brentwood on a map — I chose it the same way my clients do. I walked the trails. I sat in the clubhouse. I pictured my life here. And it fit.
